Our team worked with the BBC Archives to restore The Singing Detective, Dennis Potter’s groundbreaking 1986 drama starring Michael Gambon. Recognised as one of the greatest television dramas of all time and voted number five in the BFI’s top series list, this project marked the 30th anniversary of Potter’s passing. It was 4K Scanned, HDR Graded and Restored by our team.
Following 4K scanning, the series underwent a scene-by-scene 4K HDR grade. Dynamic range was extended to reveal deeper shadow detail and controlled highlights while maintaining the tonal character of the original film. Skin tones were carefully balanced. Contrast was refined without crushing blacks or introducing artificial sharpness.
