Jo has been quite the globetrotter recently, representing R3store Studios and also FOCAL International at the FIAF Congress in Prague. Archives from all around the world came together to share what’s new in the wonderful world of archive.

Sharing was the theme of the FIAF 2018 symposium, with panel discussions focusing on open source media and the advantages of sharing material. Accessibility and democracy have been emphasised not as challenges but as strengths to the archive industry, providing the world with many benefits not limited to education, historical awareness, and a simple walk down memory lane.

The Unlocking Film Heritage project was commended for having shared its material not just online but also on television, making regional archives truly accessible across audiences. There was also talk of archives sharing material across countries and continents for different events. This open, sharing nature of the industry has been praised for bringing the archive community closer together.

The symposium concluded with a bang as everyone gathered at the National Museum to celebrate FIAF’s 80th birthday. It was a great time to socialise with other archives, catch up with old friends, and make new ones!

Jo will also be travelling again next month to attend Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna so if you would like to chat about the wonderful world of archive and what we can do please get in touch so you can meet up at the festival.
