FIAT/IFTA Media Seminar

Jul 02 2017

At the beginning of June, Matt Wills attended the FIAT/IFTA Media Management Seminar in the very lovely city of Lugano!

At a well-attended event, there was some fascinating insight into some of the challenges facing archives around the world and some hugely inventive actions being taken by some to address these challenges.

Across 2 days R3store Studios were treated to some fascinating and insight presentations by a whole range of organisations, including case studies from friends of ours at IMG, Imagen, BBC & UEFA.

In a late change to the advertised program Matt was also asked to take part in a panel discussion alongside ITV Sport, The PGA Tour, The IOC & Mediaset – in a discussion hosted by Adrian Hoile from EVS we were quizzed on our thoughts on sports archives and particularly the advantages of digitising. In addition to 2 full days of discussion the attendees were also treated to a lovely boat trip on the lake, which was a truly stunning experience!

FIAT/IFTA is a global network of broadcast archives and is the leading professional association for those engaged in the preservation and exploitation of broadcast archives. Its main objectives are to provide a forum for exchange of knowledge and experience between its members, to promote the study of any topic relevant to the development of audiovisual archives and to establish international standards on key issues regarding all aspects of audiovisual media management. Four thematic commissions permit to address all the issues related to audiovisual content and to promote the study of specific topics.

To achieve this, FIAT/IFTA encourages and organises an annual conference in different locations in the world, as well as international seminars and local and regional meetings. The annual conference is a unique opportunity to discover the future of the audiovisual domain and its new tendencies and uses.

It was a truly great couple of days and was nice to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones. Well done FIAT/IFTA for organising such a great event in such a lovely location!
